Winter Festival of Lights in Niagara Falls

Taking place until January 31st, the Winter Festival of Lights in Niagara Falls is the perfect way to celebrate the holiday season with those you love. This is the festival’s 35th year running and it’s become a family favourite for the winter season.

Organized by the Ontario Power Generation, the festival features millions of beautiful multi-coloured lights and animated displays within Niagara Parks, Dufferin Islands and tourist districts nearby.

The festival is Canada’s largest and one of North America’s premiere illumination festivals, attracting over 1.5 million visitors annually.

With over 30 displays, and new ones added this year, you can enjoy a 8 km route that you’ll want to pay a visit to more than once this season. Some displays include the light show at the Toronto Power Generating Station, three-dimensional Angels at the Niagara Parks Police Building and a laser light show at the top of Clifton Hill. Recent additions include; the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles displays on the Victoria Avenue Promenade, the Inukshuk in Dufferin Islands, a new 3D Projection Mapping Show on the Oakes Hotel on Fallsview Boulevard and lighting of the Canadian Niagara Power Plant.

This year’s Fireworks Series, presented by Fallsview Casino Resort, will feature twenty fireworks shows during the Winter Festival of Lights season and weekly shows will take place every Friday night at 9pm and nightly through December 23rd to 29th. This spectacle is one you don’t want to miss.

The kids can also get to know the festival goodwill ambassadors, the Misty Kids. The Misty Kids are furry mascot friends that will be around throughout the Winter Festival of Lights Season; posing for pictures and interacting with the crowds.

Along with the excitement of fireworks, creative displays and friendly mascots, every evening beginning at dusk, Niagara Falls is transformed into an incredible, multi-coloured water and light masterpiece. This is down with special lights that are housed in the Illumination Tower, next to Queen Victoria Place; on the roof of Table Rock Centre, at the brink of the Horseshoe Falls; and deep in the Niagara Gorge. Together, these lights work to create a breathtaking view not to be missed. Enjoy this beauty all year long, as the Falls are illuminated nightly!
